I never knew this site was practically in my backyard, just a couple miles from my home in New Jersey. Here area couple of photos of the ruins of Thomas Edison's failed iron ore mining site in Ogdensburg, New Jersey. Small portions of the ruins can be seen from Edison Road, but just a few steps off the road and into the woods, much larger remnants suddenly appear.
The photos are portions of three parallel trenches that run through the woods. The trenches are each about 6 feet deep and four feet across. There is no water in the trenches, they are located at the top of a hill.
Some good general info about Edison's iron ore mining site can be found here.
